Wound closure

A surgical suture, also known as a stitch or stitches, is a medical device used to hold body tissues together and approximate wound edges after an injury or surgery. Application generally involves using a needle with an attached length of thread. Some wounds might only require the application of a “wound glue” product or even special plasters or wound adhesive devices.

Cast application

A cast is used when the two ends of a fractured bone can be realigned (healed) by a simple intervention to immobilise the damage bone. In some cases–if the bone is badly misaligned, sticking through the skin or broken into three or more pieces–surgery is necessary to realign the bone. These surgeries are performed by Orthopaedic specialists and requires a hospital admission.

General, medical emergency and trauma consultations

General, medical emergency and trauma consultations which could include administration of intravenous medication, emergency pathology and radiology tests and diagnosis of emergency conditions that require admission.

ECG

Electrocardiography is the process of producing an electrocardiogram, a recording of the heart’s electrical activity. An electrocardiogram is a visual, one-dimensional graphic representation of the electric patterns of the heart utilising voltage versus time as parameters. This is obtained by applying a multitude of electrodes to one’s skin with sticky “ECG dots”

Reductions of certain joints

Reduction is a special, tailor-made procedure to relocate and align a displaced or misaligned joint or bone fracture. Reductions of simple uncomplicated joint dislocations are undertaken in the trauma unit by the trained doctor on duty. More complicated dislocations and dislocated or misaligned fractures will probably need different degrees of specialist intervention.
