Dr Danie van der Merwe
Qualified as Medical Doctor (MBChB) from UP in 1991. Proceeded to work in the Dept of Family & Emergency Medicine Unit at Kalafong and Pretoria Academic Hosp obtaining MMed in Family Medicine in 2000.
Also worked as Supervising Medical Officer with Gauteng Emergency Medical Services and obtained a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (the highest qualification in Emergency Medicine in South Africa at the time.
Dr vd Merwe then spent the next 5 years in Canada, working in various major Emergency Departments in Manitoba and British Columbia, gaining valuable experience.
After returning to South Africa, Dr vd Merwe spent the next 10 years in various Emergency Departments in Pretoria, before successfully taking over the newly established Mediclinic Midstream Emergency Centre. After 5 years at Midstream, he teamed up with colleagues, Dr Bianca Vermeulen and Dr Schalk Augustyn, opening up the brand-new Raslouw Private Hospital Accident & Emergency Department.
Dr van der Merwe is also a qualified Airline Transport Pilot flying for an Air Ambulance Service in his spare time.

Dr Bianca Vermeulen
Qualified as a medical doctor by obtaining her MBChB at The University of Pretoria in 1998. Then she did her internship or 7th year in Kalafong Provincial Government Hospital in Gauteng in 1999.
After completing that she proceeded to do community service at Ellisras Government Hospital (now Lephalale) in the now Limpopo province
In 2000 Dr Vermeulen started working full time in the HF Verwoerd Hospital Emergency Dept,a Govt hospital in Gauteng obtaining Junior Lecturer status under the supervision of Dr J Marx. She decided to follow the lights and sirens of the helicopter ambulance to Unitas Hospital end 2001.
From December 2001 to 2018 Dr Vermeulen worked in Unitas Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department in Centurion, where her primary function was emergency work. During this period, she was involved in the emergency helicopter services (initially STAR and later Netcare) earning two sets of silver wings and also did fixed wing transfers through the continent with NC911.She stopped helicopter and fixed wing shifts in 2009. She obtained her travel Medicine certificate in 2014 and did shifts in the Go Health GP practise affiliated to the Unitas Emergency centre while in their full-time employ. During this period, she did, amongst others, her FCCS and Good Clinical Practise as well as dispensing course while also assisting in theatre with Orthopaedic cases, Surgical cases and in Plastic surgery.
She had her son, Luke, in 2011. She considers having him as one of her greatest joys and most astounding achievements.
In 2018 Dr Vermeulen moved from her permanent post at Unitas Emergency Centre and embarked on contract work in Eugene Marais Hospital’s Emergency Department as well as Wilgers Hospital’s Emergency Departments. She made a more permanent move to work in the Midstream Emergency Centre and locum at Zuid Afrikaans Hospital’s Emergency department from 2019.
Up until March 2022 she was employed at The Midstream Mediclinic Emergency centre and worked at Zuid Afrikaanse Hospitaal’s ED.
She has a passion for emergency medicine and is a ATLS instructor- she has a passion for moulding young minds and saving lives.
In June 2022 she ventured into the exciting realms of opening a practise in the accident and emergency department at Raslouw Private Hospital, with her partners Dr Danie van der Merwe, Dr Schalk Augustyn and Melissa Snyman.

Dr Schalk Augustyn
Qualified as Medical Doctor (MBChB) from UP in 2017. Proceeded to work in the Department of Health, Mafikeng Provincial Hospital’s COVID and Casualty unit in 2020.
Thereafter he worked at Eugene Marais Hospital and Wilgers Hospital Emergency Departments and ICU after completing the FCCS (Fundamental Critical Care Support) course. Dr Augustyn obtained his (DipPEC) Diploma in Primary Emergency Care in 2021.
Presently he is working at Midstream Mediclinic Hospital as an Emergency Physician
2022 is the year for big change, staring a new venture with colleagues, Dr Bianca Vermeulen and Dr Danie van der Merwe by opening up Raslouw Private Hospital Accident & Emergency Department and expecting a bundle of joy with his wife, Melinda Augustyn.

Melissa Snyman
Melissa has always had a passion to help those in need. After graduating from high school Melissa decided to pursue a career in the medical administrative field.
She has over 10 years of experience in medical administration and as such has gained a wealth of knowledge about the medical industry’s administrative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Her passion, knowledge and experience has not gone unnoticed. Melissa has been a part of management for 7 of those 10 years.
Currently Melissa is the practice manager for two Accident and Emergency Units, namely, Medi EC Inc. as well as Rasmed Trauma Inc.
Melissa embodies everything the medical industry strives to be, helpful, friendly, efficient and extremely hard working.
